This program is recognised for excellence in providing education to primary care physicians in the management of diabetes mellitus by South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES)

The course is a joint certification by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Education Academy, Chennai, delivered by Public Health Foundation of India and it is supported with an educational fund by MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., India.

Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai a unit of Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre, has now been recognized by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Brussels (Belgium) as an IDF Center of Education for 2013-2015 and is one of only eight Centers recognized by IDF worldwide.

CCEBDM is a uniquely designed once - a - month executive training program for primary health care physicians with twelve study Modules spread over 12 months. It is to apprise the physicians with latest developments in the field of diabetes management and to deal with it more efficiently in their day to day undertakings.

Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management journey so far:

CCEBDM: Cycle I (Aug 2010 - Jul 2011) which was launched on 8th August 2010 in 57 cities across 18 states all over the country has been successfully completed in July 2011. The core groups involved in the course were the National Experts, Regional Faculty, Observers and Participants. A panel of 15 National Experts (nationally and internationally acclaimed Diabetologists & Endocrinologists) were involved in curriculum review and helped in deciding course modalities. A group of 128 Regional Faculty who are prominent Diabetologists & Endocrinologists in their area, were choosen to train candidates in 100 centres. There were 72 single trainer centers & 28 merged centers with two Regional Faculty. The ratio of trainer to participant was 1:8-10. The cycle enrolled 1208 participants (73% were affiliated with private sector and 27% with Govt. sector) out of which 61% were MBBS and 39% were post-graduate. A network of 61 eminent Observers from all over the country were involved in regular monitoring of the Program.

CCEBDM: Cycle II (Dec 2011 - Nov 2012) was launched on 11th December 2011 in 65 cities across 19 states and 1 Union Territory all over the country has been successfully completed in November 2011. The core groups involved in the course were the National Experts, Regional Faculty, Observers and Participants. The National Expert panel had 15 eminent nationally and internationally acclaimed Diabetologists & Endocrinologists who had been a part of the curriculum revision and update for the new cycle. A group of 149 Regional Faculty were involved in training 1568 candidates in 119 centres. There were 89 single trainer centers & 30 merged centers with(two Regional Faculty). The ratio of trainer to participant was 1:10-15. 1568 participants (67% were affiliated with private sector and 33% with Govt. sector) were enrolled, out of which 52% were MBBS and 48% were post-graduate. A network of 84 eminent Observers from all over the country was actively involved in monitoring of the Program.

CCEBDM: Cycle III (Feb 2013 - Jan 2014) was launched on 24th February 2013 in 73 cities across 19 states and 1 Union Territory all over the country. The core groups involved in the course are the National Experts, Regional Faculty, Observers and Participants. The National Expert panel have 15 eminent nationally and internationally acclaimed Diabetologists & Endocrinologists who have been a part of the curriculum revision and update for the new cycle. A group of 164 Regional Faculty are involved in training 2306 candidates in 119 centers. There are 104 single trainer centers & 30 merged centers with(two Regional Faculty). The ratio of trainer to participant is 1:10-15. A network of 85 eminent Observers from all over the country are actively involved in monitoring of the Program.

CCEBDM: Cycle IV (March 2015 - February 2016) was launched on 15th March 2015 in 74 cities across 22 states & 2 Union Territory with 130 centers (98 single and 32 merged) in India. There are 162 Regional Faculty & 2461 Participants and 57 Observers.

CCEBDM: Cycle V (May 2017 - April 2018) was launched on 7th May 2017 in 74 cities across 23 states & UTs with 142 centers (112 single and 30 merged) in India. There are 172 Regional Faculty & 2554 Participants and 71 Observers.

The program is regularly monitored by PHFI. This is critical for successful implementation of the programme as it will synthesize evidence regarding the challenges faced by centre faculty & participants as well as it brings up modifications and suggested improvements for the course curriculum. The timely solutions to the challenges are crucial to maintain interest and reduce attrition of the physicians enrolled in the program. The M & E plan also serves as a mechanism for supportive supervision for the successful conduct of the contact sessions being held every month during the program. This component will also aid in gaining experience for successfully scaling the certification program in the coming years.
